A makeup artist is a professional beautician who makes sure that before a person goes live on television or in front of audience in a studio, they have suitable makeup according to the show and lights in the studio. These are the professionals who understand what color of makeup will look better with each specific dress in front of the camera and what kind of hair style the client should wear during the performance.

Job Responsibilities of a Makeup Artist:

  • Communicating with the producers and clients to understand what they require
  • Reading the script and understanding what type of makeup will suit each client
  • Evaluating the face and type of each client and preparing makeup kit for them
  • Giving different ideas about the makeup and hair style to the clients and helping them choose what they should take
  • Preparing the face of the client by moisturizing it and then applying makeup on it

Salary of a Makeup Artist:

There are basically two types of makeup artists; ones who work for parlors and ones who work for celebrities. The income that these makeup artists earn depends on where they work and who they work for. For example, a makeup artist who works for a big celebrity; makes more money as compared to the one who works in a local beauty salon. Parlors and salons hire these artists on hourly basis where they earn around $20 per hour where the in showbiz, they are usually hired on regular salaries and here they can make up to $40,000 per year.
