Radiation Therapist Resume

Using the process of ionized radiation to cure the cancer in a human being is called radiation therapy and the professionals who perform these therapies are called radiation therapists. They are also known as therapeutic radiographers and radiotherapists. Sometimes people confuse the terms radiation technician and the therapists with the same description but actually both are different in most of the ways. A radiation technician operates the radiation machines but a therapist actually develops the treatment strategies and gives instructions to the technician to operate the equipment. A radiation therapist is an allied health professional or in simple words, he doesn’t require a medical degree like other medical professionals.

Job Responsibilities of a Radiation Therapist:

  • Analyzing the case history and conditions of each patient to act upon the prescription of cancer specialists.
  • Making sure that the patient is going to have the prescribed amount of radiation as per the instruction of the doctor.
  • Positioning the patients in the required way to implement the radiations effectively.
  • Before the therapy starts, examining all the equipments and computers to make sure the data entered in the computer is correct.
  • Follow all the instructions and rules to prevent himself from radiation and the people around the patient in the therapy room.
  • Before, during and after the therapy, observing the patient’s conditions and body signs to prepare a detailed report and history chart for the doctor who is actually treating the patient.

Salary of a Radiation Therapist:

As you already know that most therapists run their own private clinics and therapy homes but there are a lot of hospitals that hire these therapists as the permanent member of their teams too. When it comes to the private clinic, the earning of a radiation therapist depends upon the working hours and the number of patients he can handle on daily basis and usually patients pay on hourly basis about $150 per hour. Where on the other hand when a therapist is hired by a hospital on regular salary, it’s about $80000 per year which after two to three years of experience, goes up to $125000 per year.

Here are the Guidelines to create a Radiation Therapist Resume:

  • It’s not just a piece of paper but a document that will sell you to the recruiters and as the first impression is the last one, you have to make a good resume which presents you just the way the recruiter wants to see.
  • Instead of a typical objective, use a career summary which is more enjoyable and fun as compared to an objective.
  • It’s up to you if you want to use a reverse chronological, functional or combined template for your resume. This mainly depends upon the amount of experience you have and the skills you gained during the past few years.
  • Put your name and contact information such as email and postal address at the top of the resume in bold fonts so employer remembers it.
  • Instead of tasks and duties of previous jobs, discuss your achievements, accomplishments and the quality of office environment you maintained at the previous work.
  • Only add about those jobs which are related to therapy work and avoid telling useless or irrelevant stuff like your high school part time job or when you worked as a lab assistant.
  • Proofread your resume more than once or better ask someone else to do it for you because he will tell you the tiny mistakes you can’t see.

Elements not to include in this Resume:

  • Stick to one page resume and no matter how much experience you have, don’t send out a resume with more than one page.
  • If you have no experience, leave that space empty but don’t you dare to lie. Medical field has very strict rules and you will be caught shortly and will be black listed for life.
  • Don’t enlist special skills if you don’t have any. Eventually you will be asked to perform those skills and get black listed.
  • Don’t provide a reference that you are not 100% sure about. Only talk about the reliable employers that you worked for in the past.
